This gorgeous oil is a rich blend of frankincense and myrrh resins which are finely ground and then gently infused into fractionated coconut oil, a relatively non-greasy and non-comedogenic oil (noncomedogenic means that it will not clog pores). These resins have been used in Ayurvedic medicine, as well as in traditional medicine in China and the Middle East, particularly for their anti-inflammatory effects to treat chronic conditions. In fact, the essential oils have been used since 2800 BC to treat various inflammatory conditions, including skin sores and wounds, as well as in perfumes and incense. In the West, use of frankincense dates back to thousands of years as well. Here at Woman at the Well Botanicals, we have combined the lemony-fragrant resins with rose damascena essential oil to create a multi-purpose, healing oil. Terpenoids and essential oils are the primary components of frankincense and are known to impart anti-inflammatory and anticancer activity. The same is true for myrrh, which is often combined with frankincense as a single medication, with the two acting synergistically and considered to be a potent combination in conferring various biological benefits.
